Bomarzo is a small town of barely 2,000 inhabitants (about half an hour from Rome) that has one of the most disconcerting spaces in all of Italy. It is the Park of the Monsters, an area where grotesque sculptures of obscure significance abound. Its promoter was the aristocrat Pierfrancesco Orsini, an accursed Renaissance figure if ever there was one. It is said that he was a deformed and hunchbacked man who devoted his life to esoteric lucubrations and magic.
