Guanajuato: Purgatory and Mummy Museums

The mummies of Guanajuato (MÉXICO) are a collection of naturally mummified bodies, which have been discovered after exhumation in tombs in the Santa Paula Cemetery, Guanajuato, Guanajuato. Currently one of the biggest tourist attractions in that Mexican state, the mummies are exhibited in the Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato. Currently, there are more than one hundred mummies that are part of the museum’s inventory. We can see some areas:

Projection Room: The visit begins in a room where a video is shown with the introduction to the museum.
Historical Art: In the second room, the origins of the museum and the work of some important artists regarding the Mummies of Guanajuato are shown.

The Voice of the Dead: In this room, the history of some of the most representative members of the collection is shown.
Angelitos: This is one of the most impressive rooms in the museum, where baby mummies are shown, dressed according to the tradition of the “Angelitos”.
Imaging: Room in which the interesting results of some studies carried out on the mummified bodies of a man and a woman are shown.
Tragic Deaths: Room in which the mummified bodies of people who lost their lives in shocking events are shown.
Traditional Dresses: A room of particular historical interest, as it displays mummies that were buried in traditional clothing.
Mother and Child: Undoubtedly the room with the most important piece in the museum, where the smallest mummy in the world is found, the mummified body of a fetus.
Santa Paula: A reconstruction of the niches in the pantheon from which the museum’s mummies were exhumed is displayed there, as well as bodies from different stages of the collection.
